Windows

The installer will contact our server and display the available distributions in a drop-down menu. If you have problems, you might need to set the proxy field in the installer. The installer will pick the version suitable for your system automatically.

Alternatively, you can obtain the zip archive (32bit) or zip archive (64bit) the current distribution. You will still need to download and run the installer and place it next to the zip file -  it will pick up the source files from the zip directories and proceed with the installation.

Linux

The binaries provided should be compatible with most Linux distros (but may not be optimised for your machine architecture). We provide Suse 10.1 binaries, which you can find here. Olex2 releases updates to different channels.  If you subscribe to the Beta channel you will get more frequent (but less stable) updates and get to use and help test new features first. Please check if your automatic updates are switched on so that you can get important incremental updates. Once you have downloaded the zip file, unzip it and modify the start script inside olex2 folder, to point to the right location of the executable.

Mac OS X

We provide precompiled binaries for Intel Mac OSX 10.5. All binaries can be found here. Please select the Folder of the version you wish to install (we recommend the Release version, but you are welcome to install the Beta version, where you will get more frequent (but less stable) updates and get to use and help test new features first.

Once you downloaded a zip file, unzip it and edit the start script to point it to the right location of the olex2.app. Then use this 'start' script to launch Olex2. See also the MacOS Notes below.

Windows Notes

Please download these zip files ONLY if the installation using the above installer fails because of network problems. You will still need to download and run the installer - it will pick up the source files from the zip directories if these are placed in the same location as the installer itself.

MacOS Notes

When you download the zip file and unpack it (on Mac unpacking might happen automatically depending on your browser), it contains the olex2.app and the start script. It does not matter where you place the olex2.app (if you move it around, please do so  as a single unit!), as long as you use the start script with the correct path in it, it should work fine.

If your account is called name, and you have placed it in your home folder (~), then it would be /Users/ name. You can use the 'pwd' command in console if not sure in what the current folder is.
