64-bit Olex2 installer (use this only if you have a 64bit version of Windows)
Zip archives for current Version 1.1:
Version 1.1 has now been released
http://www.olex2.org/olex2-distro/1.1/olex2.zip The release version of Olex2 1.1.
http://www.olex2.org/olex2-distro/1.1-alpha/olex2.zip The alpha distribution is used for development, and is hence updated frequently and you may well expect the unexpected.
Zip archives for Older Version 1.0:
http://www.olex2.org/olex2-distro/1.0/olex2.zip This is the current stable release version of Olex2.
http://www.olex2.org/olex2-distro/1.0-beta/olex2.zip The beta distribution is intended for testing and therefore may be less stable than the release version.
http://www.olex2.org/olex2-distro/1.0-alpha/olex2.zip The alpha distribution is used for development, and is hence updated frequently and you may well expect the unexpected.
Installation Location
The default installation folder is in in the C:\Program Files\ directory, but you can change that to another location if you prefer or don't have access to that area. The different versions will install into sub-folders called Olex2-1.0, Olex2-1.0-beta etc. Different versions of Olex2 can be installed next to each other and will operate entirely independently.
Proxy/Firewall Settings
If you are behind a firewall, you may need to add your proxy server to the "Use proxy server" line. You might also have to add the port number and/or username and password to the line.
Typically the proxy information will look something like this:
www-cache.institution.ac.uk:8080
![]()
Automatic Updating
Olex2 releases updates to different channels. If you subscribe to the Beta channel you will get more frequent (but less stable) updates and get to use and help test new features first. By default the updater will automatically look for updates on every restart of Olex2. However, downloads will happen in the background during your current Olex2 session and will only take effect at the next Olex2 start.
Win98/Me notes
Olex2 is no longer running under Win98/Me and since there are several other components, dependent on MSVCRT 9.0, not compatible with these versions of Windows, no compatible builds will be made.
ShelX note
Olex2 will not work with the ShelX executables supplied by WinGX. Please contact the ShelX author, George Sheldrick, directly to obtain the standard versions of ShelX. Also, with some versions of ShelX, there will be a pop-up box after a refinement or solution job has finished (saying something about FORTRAN). There is nothing we can do about this - but you could obtain a new version of ShelX which won't show this behaviour.
