Olex2 for Linux

Olex2 supported Linux distributions:

  • Fedora 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
  • Centos 5
  • Suse 10.1

In most cases the olex2 executable has been built for both the i386 and x86_64 architectures.

CCTBX is required to use the SMTBX (read-this) for the Fedora and Centos installs CCTBX rpms are available in the test-repo & main repos.

Installation

On Fedora distributions the best way to install olex2 is to use debroglie.net yum repo.

On Centos due to the need to use a custom python environment the only sensible way is to use the debroglie.net repo.

On Suse a zipped binary is available (see below).

Download

Binaries

The binaries provided should be compatible with most Linux distros (but may not be optimised for your machine architecture). We provide Suse 10.1 binaries, which you can find hereOlex2 releases updates to different channels.  If you subscribe to the Beta channel you will get more frequent (but less stable) updates and get to use and help test new features first. Please check if your automatic updates are switched on so that you can get important incremental updates. Once you have downloaded the zip file, unzip it and modify the start script inside olex2 folder, to point to the right location of the distribution. Also read FAQ about possible problems with OpenGL or tooltips.

Fedora and Centos - Please use the RPMS (see below).

RPMS

Olex2 fedora (8, 9, 10, 11 & 12) and centos (epel-5) rpms are now available from the debroglie.net.  They can be downloaded directly or installed via yum (Remember you will need root or sudo permissions to install the rpm via yum or directly).

Please use the fedora 8 repo if you are using Linpus.

If your struggling feel free to contact me via the xforum software forum.
